An independent beverage can manufacturer based in Turkey has started operation of its second line, adding 330ml sleek and 500ml standard cans to its portfolio.
Lion Paketleme, based in the city of Mersin, started operation of its second line in January 2024. As with the company’s first line, which produces 250ml slim cans, the line runs at speeds of up to 2,200 cans per minute with eight bodymakers.
Both lines were supplied by Stolle, and are situated side-by-side at Lion’s facility.
The cans are primarily being sold into Lion’s domestic Turkey market, but are also exported to Germany, Poland, Hungary, Albania, Cyprus, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Iraq, managing director and owner Ercan Zan told The Canmaker.
The main end-use market for the cans are the soft and energy drink sector, along with ready-to-drink coffees, iced teas, and juices.
Lion’s first line started in operation in July 2021. Production had been due to start in July 2020 but was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
